Father's Day

A busy weekend meant getting creative to celebrate Father's Day. Zane had some cattle work to do Saturday and then he works at his "real" job all day on Sunday, but Natalie is always wanting to prepare a party! So while he was gone Saturday morning, we did some thinking and preparation for celebrating our favorite dad!

We played water balloons, swam, made snow cones, had a fabulous dinner of stuffed steaks, and finished out the day with a lovely fire pit session. Mmmmm, s'mores!!

Pioneer Days

It was the annual "Pioneer Days" in Rhome. We headed up to town to watch the parade (very low attendance, unfortunately), a pony ride, a visit to a mini petting zoo, and the highlight -- the all-day wrist band access to the bounce houses and the water slide. She had a great time and even got to make her first purchase from an ice cream truck. All-in-all, a great day!!

Sweet Summer

Sweet Summer Watermelon! Seriously, this is the life!! Natalie is eating watermelon from the float in the pool!! And when it's THAT hot, why go in to take a shower ~ Yes, I made her just shower in the hose. Shampoo and all. Not too bad ... even if she IS acting like she's freezing. It was almost 100* out!!

Oh, what a night!

Wow!! What a night. Last night, June 10, we had a *crazy* storm come through. The straight line winds created quite a mess at our house!! The trampoline flew across our property. Now, we don't have a HUGE place, but it flew from our yard (in the NW corner of the property) to a pasture (the SE corner). It hit a tree in its travels ... creating a little injury to the tree. Hopefully it'll heal fine and be okay. We were fine other than limbs and trash around the yard ~ and we're short a few shingles on the house.

Kindergarten Graduation

Kindergarten graduation was on Thursday 6/4. They did a really nice ceremony for them and we had a nice reception and slideshow complete with baby pictures in the classroom after. Now school is out for the summer and we're anxious already about First Grade (in a very excited sort of way!)

So, in a flash, we've gone from Kindergarten Round Up last spring ~ to starting school last fall ~ and now, it's already graduation week!

We've gained a lot of wisdom:
  • She's gone from reading at a Pre-K/early Kindergarten level to a 2nd grade level.
  • Her writing went from learning to make the letters properly to now writing about friends not letting her smell their pencil grippers and other important things (HA!!)
  • We know all about "using your singing voice" and how much she dislikes music class for this reason
  • There IS a difference between the Texas & US flags. Don't laugh, she missed this at the beginning of the year!
  • And we've also learned that math is now taught usingequations, not algorithms.
But the real learning came from a few unconventional tidbits of information:
  • It is not just the boys who use potty talk. Some girls and even some teachers *gasp* are prone, too.
  • Eating blue will turn your poop green. Is this true??
  • If someone passes gas in class, it can make the room smell like french fries.
  • Not letting someone smell your pencil gripper is HUGE!
  • Scented pencil grippers can "get all smelled up"
  • Field Day spirit sticks are HARD to come by
  • A mouse can make an adult "scream like a little girl"
  • And last, but certainly not least, that ....
  • The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You.
It's been an incredible year! So ready for summer and 1st grade, but this has been one great time!!

Teacher Sleepover

Natalie's super fabulous Kindergarten teacher invited all of the girls in the class over for a sleepover at her apartment after school was out. In a class of 21, there were only 7 girls - so she felt they were entitled to a special treat after enduring ALL OF THOSE BOYS all year. Only 5 were able to make it, but it included Natalie and 4 of her very closest friends. It was a really fun night of swimming, grilling hot dogs, making ice cream sundaes, doing finger nails, watching a movie, staying up late, and just enjoying time with their favorite teacher and best friends. Thanks again to Ms. Morris for everything! It's been a wonderful year!
