Baby Kitties - 2010

What can you say when 2 new kittens just appear?!  And when you have a 6-year-old little girl smitten with them?
DJ [black face] and JJ [grey face]

Clearly, nothing.  Even if the little guys - yes, boys! - are wrapped in pink feather boas!  :-))

A little bit of catch-up here

I (mom) have taken a bit of a break from working on Natalie's blog because she let me know that she doesn't like it when I write it from my perspective.  Well, I gave her a chance to write and well, she hasn't kept up.  At all.  So I'm back with a few pictures and updates!

First up, the new puppy, Sig - named for Captain Sig Hansen of the F/V Northwestern on the Discovery show, "Deadliest Catch"

A fun day of ice skating.  Why the tutu, who knows - but she rocked the outfit pretty well ... and did great on the ice!

We stopped by the Founder's Plaza park at DFW Airport ... Looking at these pictures just makes me think of the Gary Allan song with the line "I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplane ... take off ... and flyyyyy"

At the beginning of May, we took an 11-day road trip - 10 states - many sights!  We had a great time!!

The TX Roadside park ... we were there on a cool morning, but Natalie wanted to go FIND a rattlesnake to take a picture of.  I opted to stick to the sign!

Scotts Bluff - NE

Natalie's favorite of the trip - Mt. Rushmore.  She was so excited to see it.  I'm not completely sure WHY, but it was fun to see her excitement!

Craters of the Moon lava flow - ID

Collecting petrified wood - OR

I just included this one because it's so .... her.  Just chilling at her Great Gram's.

My favorite of the trip - Arches National Park - UT

The last part of the Cliff Palace Tour - Mesa Verde - CO

And now we're back home!  This is her first swim meet ... she ended up swimming freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke ~ She did really well and had a great time!

And our entire spring was spent at the softball fields.  We all loved it!!  Natalie played great and can't wait for the fall season to start!

And this is basically the highlight video :-))

Getting Interviewed at the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo

I was at Ft. Worth when three girls came up to my dad and asked if they could interview him and me.  Two of them had cameras and were interviewing me first.  First they interview me while I was working with Duke.  I tried to pretend they weren't there while I was working, but I just couldn't stop looking at them from the corner of my eye.  Then they asked if I minded them asking me a couple of questions, and I said, "No, I do not mind at all."

One question was, "What kind of things do you like to do?"  My answer was, "I love to work with cattle and I like to do sports too."  They also asked me how old I was and how old Duke was. They also asked how much work it was to take care of Duke.

I feel kind of embarrassed watching myself on the video.  It was cool seeing that most of the video was about our family.  I felt proud of all the work I have done with our cattle.

Thank you TCU reporter girls!

Revised Story - Imaginary Trip to Disney World

One day me, my sister Stevie, my horse Bell, and her horse Camanchy traveled to Disney World with a blue wagen with a bed in it hooked to the horses.  We went by a pasture with nothing in it so Stevie and I opned the gate and rode the horses into the pasture.  Then I stoped the horses in front of the gate and unhooked them so they could grayz the tall green grass and run around for a little bit.  After a while I yelled "Bell, Camanchy, time to go!" so they hurried to us and Stevie and I hooked them back to the wagen.  Stevie opned the gate and drove the horses out.  I stoped to let Stevie hop on and we rode all the way to Disney World.

When we got there we droped off the blue wagen but when we got there it was about twelve o'clock am so we kwickly rode the horses to the stable and put them in a pin that was in the stable.  After that we fed them and gave them water.  Next we went back to the wagen to get our stuff.  When we were done we ran to our hotel room and put on our pj's, brushed our teeth, went potty, got in bed, and went to sleep for the night for a big day of rideing back to Pine Hollow.

The next day we got up, put our bathrobes on, ran to feed and water the horses and back to the hotel to get dressed, pack our sutcases, and checed out.  We went out to the wagen and put our stuff in it.  Then Stevie and I went to get the horses and Stevie put Camanchy's saddle on but I purpisly did not bring Bell's saddle because I was going to ride Camanchy insted of Bell because Camanchy is stronger than Bell is.  So we hooked the horses to the wagen.  Next Stevie hoped in the wagen and I got on Camanchy's back.  After that we were off.  We did go by the pasture again but we did not stop this time because we were almost to the barn.  We were happy to know it was Pine Hollow.

Everybody came running up to us, including the owner of the barn.  They were asking "how was it Lisa, how was it Stevie?"  We said "it was fine" then they asked how Bell and Camanchy actid and we said "fine" again.

What color?

Just curious what color you would call this eye? It Natalie's, eye - and while she spent the first 3 years of her life with "blue eyes", I would certainly say these are *not* blue. But what color ARE they??

What do YOU think?!

Orthodontist Update

(forgive the wild hair - rainy & windy!!)

Natalie had her follow-up with the orthodontist.  Back in September, we began our journey with them.  Natalie had a crowded top jaw and a resulting cross-bite.  As she lost her baby teeth, it was clear that it was going to be a mess as her larger permanent teeth started erupting.

We found a fabulous guy who is very proactive and we were able to start treatment almost immediately.  In October, they placed an expander in her mouth.  We used a "key" to essentially unscrew it each morning and night for a total of 28 turns.

The final result is a jaw that is 7mm wider than when we started and according to our visit this week, has now created plenty of room for her permanent teeth to come in.

For now, our only thing to monitor is her top right front tooth.  He noticed that it's coming in a bit "behind" the left one and said if it's too pronounced, he'd like to just put 2 braces brackets on those teeth and correct that before it gets worse.

Otherwise, we got back in a few months.  The expander is still in her mouth to allow the bones to fuse and maintain the space in there.  Once she has her 4 top teeth in, they will use braces to straighten them out and then put a permanent wire behind them to hold until she's ready for her "real" set of braces at 12-13 years old.

So far, so good - it's made a world of difference already!
